Columbia Center moving to new hospital in Mequon

New, independent center opens adjacent to Columbia St. Mary's Hospital

Milwaukee, Wis. – Columbia Center, an independent birthing hospital, will move from Milwaukee to a newly constructed, state-of-the-art birthing hospital in Mequon on Oct. 1.

Columbia Center will move to the Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee Campus on Port Washington Rd. After the move, all birthing services at the Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee campus will be consolidated under Columbia Center.

"We are pleased to offer our patients the opportunity to give birth in this beautiful new facility," says Candy Casey, Columbia Center’s chief executive officer. "We have always prided ourselves on providing exceptionally nurturing care to expectant mothers and their families. The care we give will be enhanced by the brand new environment as well as the coming together of two very strong staffs."

Birthing staffs from both Columbia Center and Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee campus will come together under Columbia Center to continue its strong tradition of providing mothers, fathers and families with a wide range of birth options, says Casey. It will continue to offer expectant mothers the amenities of doula care, therapeutic showers, a hydrotherapy tub for labor, birthing balls and a wide range of pain management options, including the use of epidurals, as well as elective sterilization services.

At the Mequon location, Columbia Center will have a staff of approximately 80, 17 state-of-the-art LDRPs, which are one-stop birthing rooms for the complete duration of Labor- Delivery-Recovery-Postpartum and three cesarean birth suites, as well as provide specialized care for the term and near term infant. In fiscal year 2006, 655 babies were born at the Columbia Center.

Columbia Center will remain fully operational in its current location at Newport and Maryland until services move to its new Mequon location. Up-to-date information about Columbia Center’s relocation is available to the public at www.columbiacenter.org.

The Boards of Directors of Columbia Health System and Columbia St. Mary’s approved the relocation of the Columbia Center from Milwaukee’s east side to Mequon in October 2004. After the relocation of Columbia Center, Columbia St. Mary’s will assume control of the Columbia campus property previously occupied by Columbia Center.
