Columbia Center to hold Lamaze Session for Family Educators

Mequon, Wis. — Columbia Center will be the host location for a Lamaze International event. “Reality Birth: Educate, Advocate, Motivate” will be held on Tuesday April 27, 2010, at Columbia Center.

Lamaze’s Reality Birth workshop is for family educators, nurses, doulas and other health care professionals who teach and support parents during pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding.

Using reality television as a backdrop to discuss the reality of birth in the technology age, the daylong workshop will focus on four areas:

  • Teaching important details about labor induction, epidural analgesia, cesarean surgery and breastfeeding
  • Building parents’ confidence in their pregnancy and childbirth choices
  • Presenting interactive teaching strategies for a more dynamic learning environment
  • Instructing educators on how to find the most up-to-date information about trends in childbirth
  • For more information on “Reality Birth: Educate, Advocate, Motivate” or if you’re a family educator and would like to register, please visit the Lamaze International website at http://columbiacenter.org/lamaze.

“Reality TV, especially shows about birth, are very popular with the families we see. I can’t wait to see how Lamaze’s workshop will tie that in to what we teach and do with families,” says Ann Grauer, Columbia Center’s doula program coordinator and family educator.

Lamaze International is a nonprofit organization that seeks to promote, support and protect, natural, safe and healthy birth through education and advocacy.
