New Mequon location welcomes mothers-to-be (9/19/07)

Our new birth hospital in Mequon began welcoming mothers in labor on September 19. Columbia Center combining our exceptional care and unique approach to birth services with a brand new state-of-the-art facility. The new specialty birth hospital is located on Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee campus.

“As our Columbia Center families know, we are an intimate, nurturing birth hospital that provides women, families and their physicians with a wide-range of birth options,” says President and CEO Candy Casey. “We have always prided ourselves in providing exceptionally nurturing care to expectant mothers and their families. The care we give will be enhanced by the brand new hospital and the strong staff we are bringing together.”

The birthing staffs from Columbia Center and Columbia St. Mary’s Ozaukee have come together under Columbia Center. Carrol Faum of Columbia Center and Chris Vetter of Ozaukee Birthing Center, the senior members of their respective nursing staffs, had the honor of cutting the ribbon, symbolically opening our new birth hospital at a celebration for staff and board members.

“In getting to know the team here in Ozaukee, their dedication and talent, I am thrilled about the potential we have together,” says Carol Ford, Director of Patient Services. “Together, the sky is the limit.”

The new hospital houses 17 birthing suites, each furnished with warm touches and comfortable amenities, yet all the medical equipment a physician may need is easily accessible, concealed behind cabinet doors and framed art. TV and wireless internet access are available in each room. Chairs that convert into beds are also found in each room.

Luxurious bathrooms feature spa-like hydrotherapy showers. Or, if preferred, the calming sensation of Columbia Center’s unique hydrotherapy tub is available.

More than 350 people attended our Open House Saturday, Sept. 8. They toured the hospital, had the opportunity to meet our physicians, nurses and doulas. (Columbia Center has the only hospital-based doula program in Wisconsin. Doulas provide emotional and informational support during childbirth.)
