Permanent Options — Tubal Ligation
Tubal ligation is a highly effective, permanent method of birth control for women. It is a surgical procedure that involves sealing a woman's fallopian tubes, making fertilization impossible. The surgery is effective immediately and about 99.5% effective as birth control.
Shortly after giving birth, when still in the hospital, is an opportune time to have a tubal ligation.
A doctor can perform the tubal ligation for a woman having a Cesarean section in just a few extra minutes. Either way, the procedure does not lengthen your postpartum hospital stay.
