Essure
Permanent Options — Essure
The Essure procedure is a permanent birth control method for women. It involves placing a small flexible device into each fallopian tube. When this device has been in place over a three-month period, body tissue grows into it and blocks the tubes, stopping sperm from reaching and fertilizing the egg, preventing pregnancy.
The materials used in this device have been studied and used in the heart and other parts of the human body for many years.
No incisions are required to place the device, so it can be done without general anesthesia. Also, no hormones are used in the Essure procedure.
For referrals to physicians performing the Essure procedure at Columbia Center, please call Diane Oakland at 262.243.6631.
