Welcome!

Columbia Center’s ParentSpace Forums are an online place where parents can meet, share experiences and learn from one another. The forums are organized by Topics in childbirth, pregnancy and early parenting. They are public and registration is required for access and use.

Please follow these guidelines and tips when you use ParentSpace and make it your village.

WHAT TO DO

Introduce yourself.
Click on Control Panel to complete your profile, add a picture and share helpful information about yourself, such as your location, interests, and occupation. Remember that you don’t have to share anything you don’t want to share. Click on Public Profile to see what ParentSpace guests will see about you. Other guests cannot see your last name or email address.

Read the Topics before starting new ones.
Familiarize yourself with the Topics already started. Better yet, browse through the conversations to get a feel for the flow of the discussion. Avoid jumping right in to start a new Topic, because it may already exist. ParentSpace moderators may move a conversation to a different Topic folder to help keep the forums organized.

Actively share information about Topics.
Everyone has something to share and everyone has questions. The more you contribute to the ParentSpace Forums, the better your experience will be. Feel free to share your experiences, questions, and concerns pertaining to Topics often.

Make reasonable arguments using credible sources.
Your thoughts and ideas are welcomed on these Forums. Try to make reasonable and logical arguments and cite credible sources whenever available. Always remember that a conversation here, even though it is written down, is still only a conversation. It may be only opinion, not fact. Always consult your physician for medical advice and decisions pertaining to your own health care.

Keep an open mind.
The topics of childbirth and parenting are near and dear to all of us. We expect healthy debates in our Forums and welcome diverse opinions. Try to keep an open mind and wear a thick skin. And remember that sometimes, you just have to agree to disagree. That means making a point but not hammering away at a person who disagrees.

WHAT NOT TO DO

No disrespectful or offensive posts.
The ParentSpace Forums are free and open to all. However, guests do not have the right to be disrespectful or offensive. ParentSpace moderators will delete posts that are disrespectful or offensive following a general community standard. Columbia Center may suspend posting privileges of persons who repeatedly make disrespectful or offensive posts.

No private or secure information.
The ParentSpace Forums require registration for use but they are still public. But be careful not to post private or secure information about yourself or another person. Do not post last names, addresses, contact information or other types information that could be misused if disclosed. ParentSpace moderators will make every effort to delete private or secure information from postings.

Thank you for your part in making ParentSpace an enjoyable online experience for all.
