Getting to know our Childbirth Education Classes
February 22, 2012
Columbia Center is now offering greater flexibility with its six-week childbirth preparation series of classes. If your schedule doesn’t permit you to take all six classes or if you feel you are a pro on one of the six major topics to be covered, you can simply go a la carte with the classes. Take only one, take three or take all six. It’s your choice now.
The Childbirth and Early Parenting Series provides a comprehensive understanding of pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting topics. It is offered as six weeknight classes or two Saturday classes.
If you do decide to take the classes on an a la carte basis, you will need to take the prerequisite Understanding Birth class. This class will cover important foundational concepts that will be essential to your understanding of the topics covered in the other classes. In Understanding Birth, our childbirth educators will explain the process of labor and birth, the role of your support person, your choices in childbirth, relaxation techniques and the recovery process after giving birth. It includes the booklet titled Understanding Birth and a tour of Columbia Center. The class is the perfect way to start preparing for your unique birth experience. An intimate classroom setting at Columbia Center allows you to share your concerns, gain information relevant and important to you, and help guide you in finding additional information and resources during the months ahead.
A la carte classes you may wish to take after Understanding Birth include:
- Comfort Measures for Labor, Birth and Early Parenting
- Epidurals and More
- Beyond the Basics
- After Birth
- Amazing Newborn and Baby Care
While each class is priced separately, you will receive a discount when you register for the full series of six classes. Click here for more information on cost.
But don’t stop there!
We have a variety of other classes that will be of interest to you along the way. Columbia Center also hosts special events featuring speakers on pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting topics. Visit our Learn Something New section of the website often to find out what’s happening.
